We going to learn five hadiths on the virtues of the Quran today. We implore every one of us to strive in seeking knowledge about the recitation of the Quran bit by bit, understanding it, and putting it into practice. The prophet made us to know that the best of people learn and teach the Quran.

Uthman bin Affan reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.”  (Sahih Bukhari)

We ask Allah to give us beneficial knowledge.

Hadith 1 on Virtues of the Quran: It will intercede for those who read it

Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:

عن أبي أمامة رضي الله عنه قال

سمعتُ رسولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يقولُ: «اقْرَؤُوا القرْآنَ؛ فَإنَّهُ يَأتِي يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ شَفِيعًا لأَصْحَابِهِ

I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Read the Qur’an, as it will come as an intercessor for its companions on the Day of Resurrection.”

Hadith 2 on Virtues of the Quran: It scares Satan away

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال:

لَا تَجْعَلُوا بُيُوتَكُمْ مَقَابِرَ، إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَنْفِرُ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ الَّذِي تُقْرَأُ فِيهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Do not turn your houses into graves. Indeed, Satan runs away from the house in which Surat al-Baqarah is recited.”

Hadith 3 on Virtues of the Quran: Highly rewarding while reading it

Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said

عن عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:

مَنْ قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حَسَنَةٌ، وَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا، لَا أَقُولُ {الم} حَرْفٌ، وَلَكِنْ {أَلِفٌ} حَرْفٌ، وَ{لَامٌ} حَرْفٌ، وَ{مِيمٌ} حَرْفٌ

“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will be credited with a good deed for it, and a good deed is multiplied tenfold. I am not saying that ‘Alif-Lām-Mīm’ is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lām is a letter, and Mīm is a letter.

Hadith 4 on Virtues of the Quran: Protection from Dajjal

Abu Ad-Dardā’ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:

عن أبي الدرداء –رضي الله عنه- عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم

مَنْ حَفِظَ عَشْرَ آيَاتٍ مِنْ أَوَّلِ سُورَةِ الكَهْفِ، عُصِمَ مِنَ الدَّجَّالِ . وفي رواية:  مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ الكَهْف

“Whoever memorizes ten of the first verses of Sūrat al-Kahf will be guarded against the Anti-Christ.” In another version: “From the concluding verses of Sūrat al-Kahf”

Hadith 5 on Virtues of the Quran: Means of being with the Angels

A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said:

 عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالتْ, قالَ رسولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم:

 الذي يقرَأُ القرآنَ وهو مَاهِرٌ به مع السَّفَرَةِ الكِرَامِ البَرَرَةِ، والذي يقرَأُ القرآنَ ويَتَتَعْتَعُ فيه وهو عليه شَاقٌ لَهُ أجْرَانِ

“The one who recites the Qur’an skillfully will be in the company of the noble and righteous messenger-angels and the one who reads the Qur’an, but stutters and finds it difficult, receives a double reward”

Sahih Bukhari and Muslim

These are just some of the virtues of the Quran. There are still a lot more. We encourage every one of us to seek knowledge about the recitation of the Quran, understanding it, and putting it into practice.
