Is RMQK part of Islam? Concise Islamic verdict on RMQK

In recent years, a new movement known as RMQK has begun gaining fame among certain circles in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. Many are asking, “Is RMQK part of Islam?, and more importantly, “What is the Islamic verdict on RMQK?” These questions are valid and crucial to answer according to Islam view on it.

This is because this group speaks in the name of Allah or the Prophet ﷺ, that’s why we must return to the Quran, the authentic Sunnah, and the understanding of the Salaf al-Salih (righteous predecessors) to assess their validity.

RMQK is a new spiritual movement spreading in Nigeria,  claiming to guide Muslims toward inner peace, self-realization, and higher consciousness. The name of the group looks like a Sufi-like, mystical, or enlightenment-based path, one that mixes Islamic terminologies with occult ideologies. But just like Imam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله warned:

“Falsehood is most dangerous when it wears the robe of truth.”
(Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 3/232)

RMQK was founded by Shehu Maruwf Abolade Salahudeen Adagunja (also called Emi Agba, the greatest spirit). The group claims to be a non-religious spiritual enlightenment movement, but primarily attracts Muslims due to its Islamic-sounding terminology.

What are the beliefs of RMQK?

To understand RMQK beliefs, let’s begin by clarifying the meaning of RMQK. RMQK stands for four names, not the names of Prophets or angels, but jinn. You can read the full details of RMQK here.

Rukoyailu, Morkotoyailu, Qoikoyailu, and Kashfayailu.

These are not names you will find in the Qur’an or Sunnah. Instead, they are chanted and invoked in specific RMQK rituals that include the calling of jinn for assistance, protection, or inner energy alignment. SubhanAllah, what could be more dangerous? Allah warns in the Quran…

“And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the jinn, but they (the jinn) increased them in sin and transgression.”
(Surah Al-Jinn 72:6)

To invoke the names of jinn, seek power from them, or base a spiritual system around them is not just misguidance but a major shirk, if accompanied by belief in their independent powers. So, for those wondering, is RMQK part of Islam? Of course, NO. Islam does not tell us to call upon the jinn, nor does it empower them. Islam calls to the Oneness of Allah alone.

Let’s examine their core beliefs of RMQK

  1. They promote the idea that each person has a divine light (nur) within that must be activated through meditation and inner awakening.
  2. They claim that traditional Islamic knowledge is outdated, and what matters is inner discovery, not performing the regular acts we do as Muslims, like salah or fasting.
  3. RMQK teaches that a chosen guide (murshid or enlightened master) is necessary to unlock the hidden truths of the soul.
  4. They often discourage the study of the Quran and Hadith, claiming that the real truth lies beyond textual revelation but in visions, dreams, and instincts only.
  5. Invocation of Jinns. They chant the four names (RMQK) in rituals, treating them as divine intermediaries.
  6. They believe in astrology and numerology. They also promote zodiac signs, cosmic energy, and fortune-telling, which Islam strictly forbids
  7. Their gatherings resemble charismatic Christian services (clapping, chanting) rather than Islamic worship.

Is RMQK part of Islam, Islamic verdict on RMQK, how RMQK contradicts Islam

But is this Islam? Absolutely not. Imam al-Shafi’i رحمه الله once said:

If you see a man walking on water, do not be amazed by him until he shows that he follows the command of the Book and the Sunnah.
(Quoted by Imam al-Dhahabi in Siyar A‘laam al-Nubalaa’, 10/61)

Islam is not a religion of hidden lights and secret codes. It is a clear, preserved deen. Allah says…

“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion.”
(Surah al-Ma’idah 5:3)

Is RMQK a religion or a cult?

RMQK brands itself as a non-religious sect or group. They often tell their followers, “We’re not practicing religion, we’re practicing reality.” But this is part of the deception. They target Muslims, use Islamic terms when speaking at times, and use Quranic references out of context, creating a mix of spirituality and enchantment designed to lure in the gullible ones. But Allah warns us in the Qur’an..

“And indeed, the devils do inspire their allies [among men] to dispute with you. And if you were to obey them, indeed, you would be associators [of others with Allah].”
(Surah al-An‘am 6:121)

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan حفظه الله warned in one of his khutbahs:

“The innovators and deceivers of our time do not reject Islam openly. Rather, they reshape it, redefine it, and dilute it—until the people are worshipping desires in the name of Islam.”
(Lecture: “The Path of the Saved Sect”)

This is precisely how RMQK contradicts Islam. It imitates the garments of faith (Islam), while it’s the opposite. Our Prophet ﷺ said…

Whoever introduces into this matter of ours that which is not from it, it is rejected.
(Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim)

The above hadith of our Prophet ﷺ draws a clear line between truth and falsehood in Islam. This means that no new belief, no matter how spiritual or modern, can be added to Islam without being rejected. This statement alone is enough to expose how RMQK contradicts Islam.

Let’s analyze the core beliefs of RMQK vs Islam and how RMQK contradicts Islam.

To really understand how RMQK contradicts Islam, we need to make a clear comparison between them.

1. Pure tawheed (belief in Allah) vs calling Jinns and relying on energy vibration

Islam begins with tawheed, the belief in the absolute Oneness of Allah. Worship is exclusively for Allah without intermediaries.

“And your Lord said, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’” (Quran 40:60)

“Say, He is Allah, [Who is] One.” (Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:1)

Allah is not a force, not a “light within,” not a shared energy. He is separate from His creation and above the heavens, as taught in the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the understanding of the Sahabah.

RMQK ideology…

They invoke Jinns and chant RMQK names as a form of worship. RMQK teaches that every human has a divine energy or light inside them, and through meditations, this divine self can be awakened. They speak of connecting with the higher self and activating spiritual codes, terms borrowed from Eastern enchantment like that of Eckankar.

The Islamic verdict on RMQK concerning this aspect is that this belief is major shirk. It is a clear contradiction to Tawheed. Is RMQK part of Islam? No. This teaching alone removes it from Islam.

2. Not believing in the finality of Muhammad ﷺ vs receiving false revelations

As Muslims, we believe that Muhammad ﷺ is the Seal of the Prophets. No new revelation, no new prophet, no new spiritual system is to come after him. Allah says

“Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but [he is] the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets.” (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:40)

RMQK ideology:

RMQK followers often claim that their leader receives divine insights or new instructions from the spiritual realm.” Some even claim that he has reached a level of spiritual knowledge beyond the Prophet’s ﷺ Shariah, and that these higher truths should guide mankind today. Another popular claim by these guys is that the RMQK founder is in contact with the Mahdi or spiritual beings from the unseen.

The Islamic verdict on RMQK concerning this aspect is that revelation or hidden knowledge after the Prophet ﷺ is kufr. As Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen رحمه الله made a statement concerning this…

“Whoever believes revelation continues after the Prophet ﷺ has disbelieved.”
(Sharh al-Aqeedah al-Wasitiyyah)

Again, this proves how RMQK contradicts Islam in its core.

3. Seeking help or worshipping the Jinn vs Islam’s boundaries

In Islam, we acknowledge the existence of jinn, but we are strictly forbidden from seeking help from them or invoking them. Allah says…

Consider the Day He (Allah) will gather them ˹all˺ together and say, “O assembly of jinn! You misled humans in great numbers.” And their human associates will say, “Our Lord! We benefited from each other’s company, but now we have reached the term which You appointed for us.” ˹Then˺ He Allah will say, “The Fire is your home, yours to stay in forever, except whoever Allah wills to spare.”2 Surely your Lord is All-Wise, All-Knowing.  (Quran 6:128)

RMQK ideology:

As established, RMQK is built around chanting the names of jinns, which are Rukoyailu, Morkotoyailu, Qoikoyailu, and Kashfayailu and RMQK believes that they bring healing, clarity, or protection. These chants are done repeatedly, like mantras, sometimes with energy poses.

The Islamic verdict on RMQK concerning this aspect is that invoking jinn is a major sin in Islam. Allah says..

“And the masājid are for Allah alone, so do not call upon anyone besides Allah.”  Surah Al-Jinn (72:18)

4. Role of worship in submission to Allah’s command vs self-discovery

Worship in Islam is defined by the Quran and Sunnah. We pray, fast, give zakah, and perform Hajj all in the way taught by our Prophet ﷺ.

RMQK Ideology:

RMQK dismisses ritual worship as outdated. They say that what matters is inner peace and energetic elevation. Salat, for example, is sometimes seen as optional or replaced by meditative alignment rituals.

The Islamic verdict on RMQK concerning this aspect is that it contradicts Islamic teaching. It is a means to destruction.

“Then there succeeded them a generation who neglected prayer and followed lusts; so they will meet destruction.” (Surah Maryam 19:59)

You don’t get to design your own religion. Worship without guidance is misguidance.

5. Promoting astrology and fortune-telling (Kufr)

Another core RMQK teaching is its use of astrology, numerology, and zodiac-based guidance. Followers are taught to understand their spiritual code using dates of birth, star alignments, and dream symbols, methods commonly used in ancient idolatry and modern fortune-telling. But our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said explicitly that

“Whoever acquires knowledge of astrology has acquired a branch of witchcraft…”
(Sunan Abu Dawood 3905, Sahih chain)

In another narration:

“Whoever goes to a soothsayer or astrologer and believes in what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.”
(Musnad Ahmad, Sahih)

Let that sink into your brain, believing in astrology and fortune-telling is an act of disbelief in revelation. You can read the full details of RMQK here.

What is the Islamic verdict on RMQK?

After examining the movement from all necessary angles, its origins, ideology, practices, and claims, the final Islamic verdict on RMQK is very clear.

Is RMQK part of Islam, Islamic verdict on RMQK, how RMQK contradicts Islam

RMQK is haram.
It is not part of Islam.
It is a dangerous deviation built upon shirk, kufr, and bid’ah.

This is not an emotional or biased verdict. We have already clarified it from the above analysis, so that it will be very easy for us all to judge. This is the position of the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the scholarly consensus of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah. Many scholars in Nigeria have warned against them. The likes of Dr Sharrof Deen Gbadebo Raji, Dr Lukman Idri Sekoni, and many others.

Why RMQK is declared a deviant group and why it contradicts Islam

  • It involves major shirk by invoking jinn names and seeking power through the unseen.
  • It promotes acts of kufr, like astrology, fortune-telling, and so-called divine revelations outside the Qur’an.
  • It introduces innovations (bid’ah) in worship, healing, and spirituality never sanctioned by the Prophet ﷺ.
  • It distracts Muslims from Tawheed, replacing pure monotheism with mysticism, energy rituals, and self-deification.

Imam Malik رحمه الله said:
“Whatever was not part of the religion then, is not part of the religion today.”

Islam is a complete and perfect way of life. Every aspect of our faith, like our beliefs, worship, healing, and everything, has been mentioned to us, explained, and preserved through the Qur’an and the Sunnah. It leaves no room for guesswork, personal revelations, or imported enchantment.

RMQK is not part of Islam.
It is a modern innovation wrapped in false spirituality.
It contradicts the Tawheed, creed, and method of our Prophet ﷺ and the Salaf.

RMQK innovation in Islam is not just a deviation but a spiritual danger. It takes the weak ones who lack the understanding of Islam away from the Qur’an and replaces it with confusion, superstition, and shirk. Our Prophet ﷺ warned us:

“Beware of newly invented matters, for every invented matter is a bid’ah, and every bid’ah is misguidance.”   (Abu Dawood, Sahih)

We ask Allah to show us the truth as truth and grant us the ability to follow it, and show us falsehood as falsehood and grant us the ability to avoid it. ya Allah, make us from the people of the Qur’an and Sunnah, and keep us firm upon Tawheed until we meet You. May Allah protect us from misguidance and keep us steadfast on His Straight Path. Aameen.
