Let’s learn the reward of someone who spends in charity and those who withhold.
Hadith on Angels Praying Upon Who Spends In Charity (English)
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,
“There is not a day upon which the servant awakens but that two angels descend. One of them says: O Allah, repay one who spends in charity! The other says: O Allah, give destruction to one who withholds charity!”
Muttafaqun Alayhi (authenticity agreed upon) in Sahih Bukhari 1442 and Sahih Muslim 1010
Hadith on Angels Praying Upon Who Spends In Charity (Arabic)

Brief explanation
This hadith is telling us the reward of one who spends in charity can’t be comprehended because of the Angels of Allah praying for such person. Every single day, two angels show up. One’s rooting for the givers, saying, “Ya Allah, bless this person who spends in charity!” The other? Not so much. It’s like, “Ya Allah, destroy the one who withholds!” Somewhat harsh, right? It’s a wake-up call.
Someone who spends in charity is actually doing business with Allah which he is expecting profit from it. And the other, we can say that one who spends in charity is giving a loan to Allah which he will be expecting payback. The question now is, will the profit or loan from Allah be the same as what the person spends in charity? Absolutely NO.
Allah says:
“Who is it that will loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over?” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:245)
Indeed, those men and women who give in charity and lend to Allah a good loan will have it multiplied for them, and they will have an honourable reward.
(Surah Hadid: 57:18)
So who wouldn’t want Allah as their business partner now? You give a little, and He gives back more than you can imagine. And it’s not just money only; we’re talking about a lot of good things that we can’t even imagine like peace, contentment, protection from calamities, and many more.
The Warning for Hoarders
Now, for someone who doesn’t spend in charity, he should know very well that he is actually causing ruin to this wealth. The angel will be praying against misers every day. Between prayer and curse, which one will you choose? Allah says in the Quran:
“And let not those who withhold what Allah has given them of His bounty think it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them.” (Surah Aal-E-Imran 3:180)
Ever notice how stingy people never seem truly happy? That’s no coincidence. Greed eats away at their soul—and their wallet. You will always see them not contented with what they have and will also complain negatively too much. It is clear that someone receiving curses from the pure creation of Allah who only worships Allah won’t be fully happy.
The angel prays for the destruction of the miserly, one who refuses to spend in charity out of what has been given to them. This prayer is not just a curse but a natural consequence of hoarding wealth, which breeds selfishness, disconnection, and eventually loss. Allah warns:
“And let not those who withhold what Allah has given them of His bounty think it is better for them. Rather, it is worse for them.” (Surah Aal-E-Imran 3:180)
Benefits of Acting on the Hadith
Here’s what happens to someone who spends in charity”
1. Means of opening the door of Barakah (blessings)
Giving in charity isn’t just about helping others only but it also brings you closer to Allah. Think about it, every time you give, the angels pray for you that Allah should repay you! How amazing is that? this is like starting your day with blessings from Allah. This is similar to a hadith that Abu Huraira reported:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Allah said: Spend in charity, O son of Adam, and I will spend on you.”
Muttafaqun Alayhi (authenticity agreed upon) in Sahih Bukhari 5352 and Sahih Muslim 993
So many people say that as soon as they gave in charity, unexpected blessings started flowing their way. It’s exactly what the Quran promises:
“And whatever you spend in the way of Allah, He will replace it. And He is the best of providers.” (Surah Saba’ 34:39)
2. Purification of Wealth and Soul
Zakah (obligatory charity) and Sadaqah (voluntary giving) help to clean and purify your wealth. It helps to fill your heart with gratitude and compassion. If you see someone who spends in charity, you will see this kind heart and gentleness in them.
3. Increases community growth and love
Have you ever noticed how charity brings people together? It’s like a glue that bonds paper. When you help someone in need, you’re not just easing his or her hardship; you’re building a society that cares, loves, and cherishes humanity. It reduces poverty and fosters this amazing sense of unity and responsibility. That little bit you give? It could mean the world to someone else.
4. A means of securing your Akhirah
Every act of charity is like planting a seed in Jannah which will eventually germinate into being an inhabitant of Jannah by the mercy of Allah.
And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer – those will enter Paradise and will not be wronged, [even as much as] the speck on a date seed. (Quran 4:124)
Let’s strive to give from what we have based on our level, whether small or big. We should know that charity doesn’t decrease wealth as our prophet taught us:
“Charity does not decrease wealth.” (Sahih Muslim 2588)

Basically, charity isn’t losing—it’s investing in blessings you can’t even imagine. We ask Allah to accept the ones we have done and make it easy for us to be able to do more. Aameen
