Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barokaatuh, my beloved brothers and sisters in Islam. As Muslims, we are truly blessed with countless opportunities to earn rewards. From the obligatory prayers to the voluntary prayers and many more. The reward of Solatu Duha is great and more than ninety percent of us don’t observe it, maybe because we don’t really know the importance of Solatu Duha.
Allah has given us many ways to earn His mercy. Among these means is observing Salat Duha. Salat Duha is a voluntary prayer, Sunnah Mu’akkadah (highly recommended) prayer that our Prophet ﷺ consistently encouraged. It is prayed when the sun has risen fully (about 15-20 minutes after sunrise) and lasts until just before noon (when the sun is at its peak) or until shortly before Dhuhr.
The minimum is 2 two rakahs, but performing more is excellent, like four, six, eight, or even more. All of these are better. The reward of Solatu Duha is great due to the fact that the Prophet ﷺ recommended it for Abu Hurairah and Abu Ad-Darda, and they persist in doing it and never omit it again. This was narrated by Abu Huraira that..
My friend (the Prophet) advised me to do three things and I shall not leave them till I die, these are: To fast three days every month, to offer the Duha prayer, and to offer witr before sleeping. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1178)
The companions understand that there are a lot of blessings and rewards in whatever the Prophet recommended for them, and they will stick to doing that thing. We should try and strive to emulate our Prophet too, based on his sayings and actions too as much as we can.
What is the importance of Solatu Duha
It is so disappointing that many Muslims today are unaware of the great importance of Solatu Duha and the astonishing reward of Solatu Duha.. It is just a simple prayer for anyone who wishes to bring Barokah (blessings), Sakinah (tranquility), and Rizq (provision) into their lives.
We should know that Salat Duha is a practice of our Prophet ﷺ that he himself was consistent with, and he urged us to hold onto it not as a burden, but as a means to strengthen our relationship with Allah and also earn multiple rewards. Our mother Aisha reported that:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would perform forenoon prayer with four cycles and he would add more as Allah willed (Muslim 719)
The reward of Solatu Duha includes the following, which we are going to discuss below.
What is the reward of Solatu Duha
If only we all knew the importance of Solatu Duha, or I should rather say the reward of Solatu Duha, more than ninety percent of us Muslims would hold on to this Sunnah. The funniest part is that observing Salat Duha won’t take more than a few minutes, like ten or fifteen minutes. Subhanallah, a priceless gift from Allah to earn within ten to fifteen minutes. Let’s get into the reward of Solatu Duha.
1. Means to earn the reward of following the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ
Following the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ is one of the greatest acts of worship in Islam. Observing Salat Duha, which our beloved Prophet ﷺ loved, encouraged, and personally practiced, is also a rewarding act that we can incorporate into our daily lives. The reward of following the acts of our prophet is a means to earning Allah’s love, as He says in the Quran…
“Say (O Muhammad to them): If you love Allah, then follow me, and Allah will love you and forgive your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Verse 31 from surah Al Imran)
SubhanAllah! By performing Solatu Duha, you are not just offering two or more rak’ahs, you are proclaiming your love for the Messenger ﷺ and winning the love of Allah in return. Every time you stand for Salat Duha, you are not rewarded for the prayer only, but also for reviving and adhering to the Sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever revives my Sunnah that has died after me, for him is the reward similar to the reward of those who act upon it without their reward decreasing at all.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 2677, Hasan)
Therefore, the reward of Solatu Duha is multiplied many times over because it carries the reward of voluntary prayer plus the reward of following the Sunnah.
2. It brings Barakah (blessing) to your lives and Rizq (sustenance)
One of the most immediate benefits of Solatu Duha is that it brings barokah into your time, your actions, your work, your family, and your daily affairs. Uqbah ibn ‘Amir reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,
“Verily, Allah Almighty says: O son of Adam, suffice Me with four cycles of prayer at the beginning of the morning and by them I will suffice you for the rest of your day.” (Musnad Ahmad 17390)
Meaning, by simply praying Solatu Duha, you fulfill the charity due from every part of your body and in return, Allah places immense blessings in your day, multiplying the good from even your smallest efforts. Allah says…
Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He will multiply it for him and he will have a noble reward? (57:11)
SubhanAllah! Just by performing four simple rakahs, Allah promises to take care of your needs for the rest of the day. Many of the Salaf used to say, “Whoever prays Salat Duha consistently will see Allah open doors for him in ways he never expected.”. The one who performs Salat Duha is making a robust investment in both Dunya and Aakhrah.
3. Helps strengthen one’s relationship with Allah
When you make time for Allah in the early time of the day, when everyone else is busy chasing the Dunya, you build a special bond with your Lord. You declare this through your action: “Ya Rabb, You are my priority!” The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
The Almighty Allah said: “If the slave draws closer to Me by a hand-span, I shall draw closer to him by a cubit; and if he draws closer to Me by a cubit, I shall draw closer to him by the span of two outstretched arms. If he comes to Me walking, I shall come to him running.
(Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim)
Every rakah you pray in Salat Duha is a step closer to Allah. Every sajdah you make in those quiet moments strengthens your connection with the One who created us. Over time, this relationship becomes your greatest source of comfort, strength, and direction in life.
4. Helps strengthen one’s Tawakkul (Reliance on Allah)
Another importance of Solatu Duha is that it teaches us true reliance on Allah. When you pause during your busy morning to turn to Allah, you remind your soul: “Success doesn’t come from how hard I hustle; it comes from the mercy and help of Allah.” And Allah has already promised in the Qur’an that
“And whoever relies upon Allah — then He is sufficient for him.” (Surah At-Talaq 65:3)
Praying Salat Duha strengthens this belief in your heart. You start living with certainty that Allah is enough for you, no matter what challenges you face that day.
5. It brings emotional tranquility and happiness
Another reward of Solatu Duha is the deep, emotional tranquility it brings. Performing Salat Duha is a great means of remembering Allah because this is the time that most of us are mainly occupied with our daily tasks or business. Allah made it known to us that the heart finds true peace only in the remembrance of Him.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28)
When you perform Solatu Duha, you’re bathing your heart in the light of dhikr, in the love of Allah, in the calmness that no worldly success can ever match. You walk into the rest of your day stronger, happier, and more fulfilled, because you have begun it on the right foot, with Allah by your side. You will be remembered by Allah too, based on the verse where Allah says;
Remember Me; I will remember you. And thank Me, and never be ungrateful. (Surah Al-Baqarah – 152)
