But did you know that there’s a recommended dua when leaving the mosque, which we can say as an act of worship? Yes, our Prophet ﷺ taught us specific duas for some particular moment, and he taught us the dua for leaving the masjid too.

Every action, no matter how small, can become an act of worship if done with intention and in accordance with the Sunnah. The authentic Dua for leaving the Masjid is narrated in clear Hadiths and firmly rooted in the Sunnah. These aren’t just habits, they’re acts of worship that carry reward, protect us from Shaytaan, and keep our connection with Allah alive even outside the Masjid’s walls.

But what exactly is this authentic dua when leaving the mosque? And why is it so important? Let’s explore this beautiful Sunnah in detail with proofs from the Quran, Hadith, and the explanations of the scholars.

The authentic dua when leaving the Mosque

The authentic dua when exiting the mosque is the one below, which is in Arabic, transliteration, and English meaning.

Dua for leaving the Masjid in Arabic

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Transliteration of the dua when leaving the Mosque

“Bismillah, was-salatu was-salamu ‘ala Rasulillah, Allahumma inni as’aluka min fadlik.”

Translation of the dua when leaving the Mosque

“In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.”

This dua was narrated by Imam Muslim (713) from Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas (رضي الله عنه), who said the Prophet (ﷺ) would say this dua when leaving the Mosque. This dua is like a It’s a declaration of your dependence on Allah.

You’re stepping out into the world, back into your daily life with all its trials, tests, and distractions. And the first thing you do is to turn to Allah, acknowledging that every form of goodness and success is from His bounty. And you are directly asking for His bounty and favour.

Sheikh AbdulRazzaq al-Badr حفظه الله, in his explanation of the Duas of the Prophet ﷺ, mentioned how following the Sunnah in small, everyday actions is how we build a life that is full of barakah. He mentioned that…

“The remembrance when entering and exiting the Masjid is from the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ that most people overlook. But those small deeds carry weight on the Day of Judgement.”

When you practice saying this authentic Dua for leaving the Masjid, you’re not just saying ordinary words, but you’re stepping into life with the remembrance of Allah on your tongue. That’s not a small thing.

Another thing to reflect on by saying this dua when leaving the Mosque is that when you ask Allah for His bounty, you’re not only asking for rizq (sustenance), but you are also asking for His guidance, protection, and success in your daily affairs. As Ibn Taymiyyah, Sheikh Al Islam رحمه الله said..

“The Bounty of Allah is not restricted to wealth. It includes every form of goodness that brings you closer to Him.” (Majmoo’ al-Fatawa)

So don’t limit this Dua in your mind to financial provision. Think broader and hope that you’re asking Allah to bless your actions, your intentions, everything about your daily activities related to the deen or the world.

Why is saying the dua for leaving the Masjid recommended?

In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to treat certain acts as routine, like entering the Masjid, praying, and walking out. But Islam teaches us that every moment can become an act of worship if done in accordance with the Sunnah. That’s why saying the Dua when leaving the Mosque is not a small or insignificant act that can be neglected. It is recommended to persist in saying this dua due to its virtues.

Benefits of reciting the dua when leaving the Masjid

One of the greatest blessings in Islam is that no good deed is ever too small to matter. Even something as brief as a few words uttered while stepping out of the Masjid can weigh heavily on your scale of good deeds. That’s the beauty and depth behind the dua when leaving the Mosque.

Many Muslims don’t realize the spiritual benefits tied to this simple act. But the scholars of Islam, both past and present, have shown us that this du’a carries profound virtues, protection, and a continuous link to Allah even after you’ve completed your Salah.

1. Staying connected to Allah

One of the greatest virtues of the dua for leaving the Masjid is that it keeps your heart tethered to the remembrance of Allah. You may physically leave the Masjid, but your soul remains connected to the tranquility and remembrance of Allah. You didn’t just leave the mosque casually, but by remembering Allah before you left, and true faith means carrying that consciousness wherever we go. Ibn Al-Qayyim said..

“The believer’s heart should be like a bird, always flying in the remembrance of Allah, whether inside the masjid or beyond.”

2. Asking for Allah’s favour in your worldly activities.

As you exit the Masjid, you’re stepping into a world that pulls you in many directions in forgetting about Allah, like work pressure, distractions like social media, and others. This dua can also be a shield, a silent plea for protection from what’s outside. Because when you say:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
“O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.”

You’re asking Allah to guide your steps, protect your heart, and grant you blessings that help you navigate the dunya without compromising your deen.

3. You are following the Prophet’s ﷺ footsteps

Another tremendous virtue of saying the dua for leaving the Masjid is that it’s a way to imitate the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his exact words, manner, and etiquette. Every time you follow a Sunnah, you’re not just gaining reward, you’re earning the love of Allah. Allah says in Surah Aal-Imran:

“Say, [O Muhammad], ‘If you love Allah, then follow me, and Allah will love you and forgive your sins.
