“Call upon Me; I will respond to you” (Quran 40:60). What a beautiful promise from Allah that He’s always ready to listen and respond to our supplications. The good part is that our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon) also made us know the best times to make Dua and easily get them answered.

Now, imagine knowing the right moments to call on Allah — when the heavens are open, and your supplications are most likely to be answered. These moments are like treasures too gifted to us by Allah, out of His great compassion and mercy. The importance of discussing these best times to make Dua is to ensure that we always make our supplications and prayers during these blessed moments.

In this article in shaa Allah, we’re going to discuss the best times to make Dua and have them answered by the grace of Allah. These times are just divine moments explained to us by our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon) to strive and make use of when making Dua.

    Between the Adhan and Iqamah

One of the best times to make Dua is the period between the Adhan (call to prayer) and the Iqamah (second call at the start of the prayer). The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

    Advertisements

“Two supplications are not rejected or seldom rejected: the supplication at the call to prayer and at the time of the rain.” (Sunan Abi Dawood 2540).

For anyone ready to make the most of this brief yet powerful moment, it’s important to get to the mosque early, observe the Tahiyatul Masjid Nafil, and then supplicate to Allah to ask Him for your wants.

    During Sujood (Prostration) in Salah

One of the most powerful and best times to make Dua is when in Sujood (prostration) while observing Salah (prayer). Sujood is the act of lowering oneself to the ground in a physical declaration of our highest humility and submission to Allah. It’s during Sujood that we are closest to Allah as Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said and told us to use this medium to ask Allah.

“The closest that a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration, so increase your supplications in it” (Sahih Muslim 482).

    Why Sujood is Powerful?

    Best Times To Make Dua

In Sujood, we place our highest point (our forehead) on the lowest point (the ground), to show our total submission and humility before Allah. This act is a declaration of faith and total reliance on Allah’s mercy and guidance. Thus, our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) also told us to make use of this time to supplicate to Allah.

Some things we cannot do in the Sujood are:

    1. We cannot pray in any language except in Arabic while speaking on our tongue
    2. We cannot single out the last prostration of the last Rakah to pray only
    3. We cannot read the Quran while in Sujood

During the Last Third of the Night

Another of the best times to make Dua is during the last third of the night. This period is particularly special because it is a time when Allah descends to the lowest heaven to respond to the supplications of His servants. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“Our Lord descends every night to the lowest heaven when one-third of the night remains, and says: ‘Who will call upon Me, that I may answer him? Who will ask of Me, that I may give him? Who will seek My forgiveness, that I may forgive him?    (Sahih Bukhari 1145, Sahih Muslim 758).

The last third of the night is a quiet and peaceful part of the night, distractions are less and allow you to be more focused and sincere with your Dua. It is a time of tranquility, making it easier to pour out your heart and seek Allah’s mercy and blessings. The best part is that our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) made us know that Allah is ready to listen and grant us our request at this time.

This is because He descends to the lowest heaven looking for anyone praying and asking Him something so that He can give the person and grant him his request. This is among the best times to make dua, which we should always utilize. Allah also encourages us to rise during this time in the Quran:

“And during the night, prostrate to Him and exalt Him a long part of the night.” (Quran 76:26)

Among the best times to make Dua is during rainfall

Praying and supplicating to Allah while it is raining is also one of the best times to make Dua and have it answered. This special moment was explained to us in the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who said,

“Two supplications are not rejected or seldom rejected: the supplication at the call to prayer and at the time of the rain.” (Sunan Abi Dawood 2540).

Rain is a blessing from Allah, nourishing the earth and all that inhabits it, which includes us human beings. Rainfall is seen as a sign of Allah’s mercy, as Allah said in many verses in the Quran. Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the most truthful and the one we accept his word as truth, told us to make use of the blessed moment to supplicate to Allah and our Dua will be answered.

    When Breaking the Fast (Iftar)

The moment of Iftar, when we Muslims break fast at sunset, is one of the best times to make Dua. Our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the dua of the one who breaks fast as the dua that is never rejected.

“There are three whose supplication is not rejected: The fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just leader, and the supplication of the oppressed person; Allah raises it up above the clouds and opens the gates of heaven to it. And the Lord says: ‘By My might, I shall surely aid you, even if it should be after a while.’” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, 3598)

The act of fasting is a great devotion and worship in the sight of Allah. When we fast, we abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn to sunset, solely for the sake of Allah. This sacrifice and self-control bring us closer to Allah, making the moment of Iftar a powerful time to make Dua, as our Prophet told in one of the hadith:

The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Verily, the supplication of a fasting person is not turned away at the time of breaking fast .”

Abdullah would say when breaking fast, “O Allah, I ask You by You mercy, which encompasses all things, to forgive me.”  (Sunan Ibn Mājah 1753)

    During Travel

Making Dua while traveling is one of the best times to make Dua. Although we are used to making dua for protection only while travelling but this is not the case only. It is recommended to ask Allah for our wants and desires and supplicate for His bounty while traveling. Allah says in the Quran:

It is your Lord who drives the ship for you (to travel ) through the sea that you may seek of His bounty. Indeed, He is ever, to you, Merciful.  (Al-Quran 17:66)

Whether we are traveling by air, land, or sea, these moments offer a perfect time to make Dua. It the one of the best times to make Dua and Allah subhanahu was ta’ala will accept it as our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Three supplications are answered without a doubt: the supplication of one who is wronged, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of a parent for his child” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3862)

By keeping in mind that traveling is one of the best times to make Dua, you will never miss the opportunity to ask for Allah’s blessings and mercy again.

    On Fridays

Among the best times to make Dua is after Asr on Fridays. As we all know that Friday is a special and blessed day of the week. It is a day of celebration for us Muslims, and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged us to make the most of the blessed day by making dua in a specific time in it. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Friday is made of twelve hours. No Muslim finds himself supplicating to Allah Almighty during one of them but that Allah will give it to him. Thus, seek it out in the last hour after the afternoon prayer.”   Sunan Abi Dawud 1048

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated that there is a particular moment on Fridays after the Asr Solah during which Duas are always accepted. Many scholars believe this time falls either just after the Asr prayer until sunset or during the last portion of the day (before sunset). This moment is one of the best times to make Dua, and we encourage you to keep this in mind.

After Sending Blessings on the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)

One of the most effective ways to hasten the acceptance of your Dua is by sending Salawat, upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). This practice also strengthens our connection to Allah because it fulfills a crucial command from Allah that holds massive blessings, as Allah says:

“Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace” (Quran 33:56)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:

“Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him tenfold, erase ten sins from him, and raise him ten degrees in status.” (Nasai)

The act of making Salawat before and after your supplications is Mustahab (what is preferable that you do) in ensuring that your prayers are heard and accepted. This makes it one of the best times to make Dua. The evidence is from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) where he said:

“Verily, the supplication is suspended between the heavens and the earth. Nothing ascends from it until you send blessings upon your Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.”

    Sunan al-Tirmidhi  486

You can read the correct Salawat (salutations) upon the Prophet here.

Categories of how to send Salawat upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

    1. Send Salawat at the beginning, middle, and end
    2. Send Salawat at the beginning and the end

    Making Dua When Fasting

Fasting is a notable act of worship in our Deen that not only purifies the body but also draws us closer to Allah. During this moment, our hearts are softened, our intentions are purified, and our connection to Allah is elevated. Our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) told us the significance of making Dua while fasting:

    Best Times To Make Dua

“The supplications of three are not turned back: the supplication of a parent, the supplication of a fasting person, and the supplication of a traveler.”

    Al-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Bayhaqi 6392

The above Hadith made us recognize fasting as one of the best times to make Dua, offering a golden opportunity for us to pour out our hearts and seek Allah’s blessings and forgiveness.

    When Drinking Zamzam Water

Another notable moment among the best times to make Dua is when drinking Zamzam water. This blessed water, drawn from the well in Makkah, holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims and is associated with numerous miracles and blessings.

The Zamzam water was miraculously provided by Allah to Hajar, the mother of Prophet Ismail (Ishmael, peace be upon them both), when she was desperately seeking water for her infant son. You can read the full details in the Story of Prophet Ibrahim. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) told us the significance of this sacred gift from Allah, which includes healing and for any purpose one drinks it for.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for” (Ibn Majah 3062)

This means that if you drink Zamzam water with a specific intention, whether it’s for healing, seeking knowledge, or any other good purpose you want, Allah will grant it by His grace. The moment of drinking Zamzam water is one of the best times to make Dua due to the statement of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

My brothers and sisters in Islam, we have discussed a lot of significant moments and the best times to make Dua in this article. We encourage everyone of us to make the most of these moments to supplicate to Allah subhanahu was ta’ala.

We should also remember that making Dua is a powerful act of worship that requires a firm belief in Allah, sincerity, and reliance upon His mercy and power. By including these approaches in our daily lives, we can strengthen our connection with Allah and use these best moments to have our prayers answered.

O Allah, we ask You for Your mercy and guidance. Accept our supplications made during these blessed times, forgive our sins, and shower us with Your blessings. Grant us the sincerity and humility to make our Duas from the depths of our hearts, and respond to our prayers with Your infinite mercy.

O Allah, grant us ease in our difficulties, strength in our faith, and success in our endeavors. Keep us steadfast on the right path and bless us with Your favor in this life and the hereafter. Aameen.”

May Allah accept our Duas and grant us the strength to seek His guidance and mercy in all aspects of our lives. Aameen.
