      • 4. Protect Yourself From the Jinn and Black Magic by Not Going to Soothsayers or Associating With Those Who Practice Black Magic

Assalaamu alaikum, brothers and sisters. Before you can truly protect yourself from the jinn or protect yourself from black magic, you must first understand what Islam actually teaches about these matters. Much fear about jinn and sihr comes from people’s ignorance, exaggeration, and cultural myths that have nothing to do with the Qur’an and Sunnah.

The jinn are creations like us. We humans, were created from clay, angels from light, and jinn from smokeless fire. This difference is that Allah gives them abilities humans do not possess, but it does not make them divine, all-powerful, or beyond Allah’s control.

So, understand this very well. They are not mythical ghosts; they are beings with intellect, will, and accountability, created from fire. They eat, drink, marry, have communities, and die. Most importantly, they were created for the same purpose as mankind: to worship Allah alone.

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.” (Qur’an, 51:56)

One of the most important truths many people forget is that jinn are not all evil. Allah says, quoting the jinn themselves:

“And among us are the righteous, and among us are others not so; we are of different paths.”  (Surah al-Jinn 72:11)

Just like humans, jinn also believe or disbelieve, pray or disobey, obey Allah or rebel against Him, just like us.

Why do some jinn harm humans?

The reasons are varied, often stemming from the same reasons found in wicked humans. Malice, envy, or retaliation. A jinn may harm a person because the person accidentally harmed it by pouring hot water without saying “Bismillah,” or urinating in a place they inhabit. Or, it may be a disbelieving jinn (Shayateen) whose sole purpose, as stated by Iblis (who is from the jinn), is to mislead and torment the children of Adam.

“[Iblis] said, ‘Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful.’” (Qur’an, 7:16-17)

“‘And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim – those have sought out the right course. But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.’” (Qur’an, 72:14-16)

Can Jinn or Black Magic Harm a Believer?

Yes, they can cause harm, but by the will of Allah. Nothing in this universe, from the smallest atom to the greatest devil, moves except by His leave. Their ability to harm is not a sign of their strength over you, but a manifestation of Allah’s perfect wisdom. It is a test.

See also  What is the Dua for Relief From Pain? 4 Recommended Dua When In Pain

Why would Allah permit such a test? To distinguish the sincere from the heedless, to elevate the ranks of the patient, and to compel the servant to run back to His Lord in utter humility and dependence. So as believers, we just always put our trust in Allah.

How to protect yourself from the jinn and black magic

    1. Having a sound tawheed, faith and performing righteous deeds

In order to protect yourself from the Jinn and black magic, you need a strong Tawhid, faith, and perform righteous deeds. No one can truly protect themselves from the jinn or protect themselves from black magic without correct tawhid.

True, lasting protection is built upon the unshakable foundations of your faith itself. It is a protection that emanates from your heart and envelops your entire being. This is the methodology of the Prophets and the righteous.

The core of this shield is Tawheed, the absolute Oneness of Allah in His Lordship, Worship, and Names and Attributes. Iblis himself declared the reason for his failure to mislead the sincere servants:

protect yourself from the jinn and protect yourself from black magic

“[Iblis] said, ‘By Your might, I will surely mislead them all, Except, among them, Your chosen servants.’” (Qur’an, 38:82-83)

    And Allah says:

“Indeed, My servants — you (shayṭān) have no authority over them.” (Surah al-Ḥijr 15:42)

Who are these “chosen servants”? They are the Mukhlasin, those pure in their devotion to Allah alone. Their protection is in their purity of Tawheed. Those who doesnt go to soothsayers, they don’t engage in kufr (disbelief) or acts of Shirk (Polytheism). They put their trust in Allah only and worship Him sincerely. Having this type of faith is the first foundation that Allah promised to use in protecting us from Shaytan and his soldiers (Jinns)

    2. Protect Yourself From the Jinn and Black Magic Through Qur’an Recitations and Adhkār

In order to know how to protect yourself from the jinn or protect yourself from black magic, you have to take hold of the Qur’an as your ultimate shield, and the Sunnah provides us with the exact ways to wield it. Allah Himself describes the Qur’an:

“And We send down of the Qur’an that which is healing and mercy for the believers…” (Qur’an, 17:82)

There are a lot of chapters and verses, Ayatul Ruqyah recommended to read daily or occasionally to fight Jinn and black magic. This includes Surah Fatiha, Ayatul Kurisiy, Surah Al-Ikhlās, Al-Falaq, and An-Nās (the three Qul’s), and any others. Likewise, our Prophet taught us a lot of adhkar, which include Morning and Evening Adhkār, dua before sleeping, Ayatul Ruqyah from the Quran and Sunnah and many others, which you will find on our website.

    3. Protect Yourself From the Jinn and Black Magic by purifying your house

One of the most neglected yet powerful protections in Islam is purifying the home. Many people focus on ruqyah for the body but forget that homes themselves can attract or repel shayāṭīn. If you truly want to protect yourself from the jinn and protect yourself from black magic, then you must look seriously at what kind of spiritual environment you are living in.

Our Prophet ﷺ taught us that certain actions actively cleanse a home and make it inhospitable to the Shayateen, while others invite them as unwelcome guests. Ways of purifying the house include:

    • Reading the Quran, especially Surah Al Baqarah

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Do not turn your houses into graveyards. Indeed, Shayṭān flees from the house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.”   (Muslim)

    • Not Hanging Images on the Wall

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The angels do not enter a house in which there are images or a dog.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

    • Avoid living with Dogs inside the room

The Prophet ﷺ said: “The angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog.”

    • Avoid playing and listening to musical instruments in the house

This is a topic many wish to overlook, but if you are looking for a way to protect yourself from the jinn and black magic, then you have to avoid this. It is because all instruments of idle play and entertainment distract the heart from the remembrance of Allah and it is the instrument Iblis (Shaytan) used in controlling one’s mind. Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

protect yourself from the jinn and protect yourself from black magic

“The bell is one of the musical instruments of Satan.” [Sahih Muslim 2114]

This means that musical instruments are used by shaytan and Allah made it clear that these instruments divert one’s mind from His remembrance. Therefore, this means that someone engaging with these instruments is engaging with Shaytan directly. Allah says:

“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talk to mislead others from the path of Allah without knowledge.” (Surah Luqmān 31:6)

Many of the Salaf, including Ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, said clearly:

“By Allah, it refers to singing and music.”

Music, especially when it becomes an obsession, does not merely distract, but replaces the Qur’an in the heart.

    4. Protect Yourself From the Jinn and Black Magic by Not Going to Soothsayers or Associating With Those Who Practice Black Magic

Seeking help from soothsayers, fortune-tellers, or people who deal with black magic is among the major destructive sins in Islam. If you truly want to protect yourself from the jinn and protect yourself from black magic, you must sever this path entirely. It is essential that you understand that this prohibition is a matter of faith and disbelief. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever goes to a fortune-teller and believes what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad ﷺ.” (Sunan Abu Dawud, graded Sahih by Al-Albani)

Seeking the help of magicians removes divine protection and places a person under shayṭān’s guardianship. Soothsayers do not possess knowledge. They cooperate with jinn who steal fragments of information. The Prophet ﷺ explained:

“The devils eavesdrop upon the heavenly assembly, then convey what they hear to the soothsayer, mixing it with a hundred lies.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

It is obligatory upon the one afflicted with magic or possession to go to the people of knowledge who are known for their righteousness and understanding of the Sunnah, so they can recite over him the Qur’an that is a cure… and he must beware of going to the sorcerers and soothsayers, even if they claim to be treating people, for they are corrupt and their corruption is great.” Allah says:

“And whoever relies upon Allah — He is sufficient for him.” (Surah aṭ-Ṭalāq 65:3)

This is the only path that truly helps you protect yourself from the jinn and protect yourself from black magic without compromise or fear.

As we have established, to protect yourself from the jinn and to protect yourself from black magic, you must have a sound Tawheed (oneness of Allah). Upon it, you build with the pillars of sincere worship, guarding your prayers, and immersing your home and heart in the remembrance of Allah. You reinforce it with the specific, powerful weapons He has given you, like Ayat al-Kursi, Surah Al-Baqarah, Al-Mu’awwidhat, and the constant Adhkar that act as a garrison of light around you.

We also learned that everyday acts like mentioning Allah’s name in your home, food, and even the daily morning and evening adhkaar are not small matters. They are acts of tawḥīd that block shayṭān and repel jinn. So if you want to truly protect yourself from the jinn and protect yourself from black magic, don’t just read but make your life, your home, and your heart a place where Allah is remembered, and shayṭān will have no room to remain.

We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the jinn and mankind. We ask Him to protect us from black magic, envy, and every hidden harm and make the Qur’an a light in our hearts, a healing for our chests, and a protection for our homes.
