Have you ever wondered about the best way to end your day in remembrance of Allah? The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us a beautiful dua to say before sleeping that ensures our protection, peace, and blessings. By the end of this article, you will be able to learn the authentic bedtime dua to say before sleeping. Allah has told us that He made the night as sleeping for us, and how do we make the best of it?

“And of His signs is your sleep by night and by day and your seeking of His bounty. Indeed in that are signs for a people who will hear.”

    (Surah Ar-Rum, 23)

Ensuring your night is adorned with the remembrance of Allah can bring immense peace and protection. The bedtime sunnah of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ includes some etiquettes and a specific dua to say before sleeping, that acts as a spiritual shield, providing comfort and safety throughout the night.

    Why These Bedtime Duas Matter

Ending your day with remembrance of Allah is an opportunity to align your soul and heart with maximum divine tranquility. Imagine a vessel that has been sailing through the stormy waters during the day. At the end of the day, it will definitely need a safe harbor to rest. This is how we are, too.

Sleep is a state where we are most vulnerable, and through these authentic bedtime duas, we entrust our souls to Allah, seeking His protection and mercy. Allah says:

“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.” (Surah Ar-Ra’d: 13:28)

Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the significance of these supplications, which provide both spiritual and physical security. Whether you seek peace of mind, protection from harm, or a closer connection to Allah, incorporating these bedtime duas into your nightly routine can significantly enhance your spiritual well-being.

#13 Dua To Say Before Sleeping

Praise is due to Allah Who fed us, provided us drink, sufficed us and provided us with shelter, for many a people there is none to suffice and none to provide shelter.

Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) went to his bed, he would say: “Al-hamdu lillah-illadhi at’amana wa saqana, wa kafana wa awana, fakam mimman la kafiya lahu wa la mu’wiya.

    Sahih Muslim, 2715

“And rely upon the Ever-Living who does not die, and exalt [Allah] with His praise. And sufficient is He to be, with the sins of His servants, Acquainted.” (Surah Al-Furqan: 25:58)

    3. Protection from harm as mentioned in Hadiths

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that certain supplications serve as a shield against harm during sleep. For instance, he recommended reciting the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah before sleeping:

“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, it will suffice him.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)

There are many verses that serve as sources of immense protection, ensuring that one is safeguarded from spiritual and physical harm throughout the night. Additionally, the Prophet ﷺ would often recite the three Quls (Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas) and then blow over his hands, wiping them over his body as a means of seeking Allah’s protection from every form of harm.
